For the last week, the excitement of playing in the NCAA Tournament has not really hit me yet. It was just like any other week in terms of preparation for the weekend games. We arrived at the UT softball field Thursday afternoon for practice. I just tried to take in the whole scene so I wouldn't be concerned with that on game day. Still, Friday came and I was so excited.
It was a gorgeous day with blue skies and the sun shining--perfect for a softball game. I felt strong and confident in warm-ups, and the whole team was focused and ready to play.
As game time got closer, I definitely became more and more nervous. A few people on the team even asked if I was feeling alright. I knew I would be fine, but the reality of what I was about to participate in finally hit me. Once I stepped on the field for the first pitch, though, any nervousness I had was gone.
I wanted every ball, and I was confident at the plate every time. We came to play, and from the very beginning, we were in control. Mariangee pitched an outstanding game, the defense was amazing behind her and we had some timely hits.
We know tomorrow's game against Texas will be tough. We will have to come out tomorrow and play our best again. Our win over Utah doesn't mean anything once we step on the field again. The NCAA tournament is what everyone plays for. It is quite literally, a dream come true.
