Indiana Ranks Among The Nation's Top-10 In Attendance

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - For the 34th time in last 35 years, the Indiana men's basketball team finished the year ranked among the nation's top-11 attendance leaders, as announced the NCAA recently. The Hoosiers had a total of 220,343 fans who went through the turnstiles throughout the season, which equalled an average of 16,949 per contest - a number that ranked as the eighth-best per game average in college basketball this season.
Furthermore, IU had an increase of 2,247 fans from last season's average of 14,702, marking the fifth-largest increase in the nation from 2005 to 2006.
Indiana ranked second among Big Ten schools, just behind Wisconsin (seventh - 17,142 per game) and just ahead of Illinois (ninth - 16,618 per game). As a league, the Big Ten once again topped the nation in total attendance, marking the 30th consecutive season the league has led the nation in total attendance. A total of 2,277,085 fans went through the turnstiles to watch a Big Ten team play. That equates to an average of 12,581 fans per game which also led the nation.
Overall, the Big Ten had six universities rank among the nation's top-30 teams in attendance, highlighted by three in the top 10. The six universities in the top 30 were the most by any conference, topping the Atlantic Coast Conference, Southeastern Conference and Big East Conference, which each placed four teams among the nation's attendance leaders.
