Crosier Named Academic All-American

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior Clint Crosier of the Indiana baseball team has been selected to 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Baseball second team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on May 31. Crosier was one of 11 players selected to the second team and one of four pitchers named to the first or second squads.
This marks the third straight year (Ryan Parker, 2004, 2005) and the fourth time in IU history (Joe Hillman, 1988) a Hoosier has secured Academic All-America laurels. Crosier also carded first team Academic All-District V honors earlier this season.
"Clint was very consistent for us all season," Indiana head coach Tracy Smith said. "Although his record did not indicate how good he was, Clint took the ball every Friday in Big Ten play and gave us a chance to win. The classroom is another area in his life where he is consistent, and it is nice to see him get recognized as a second team Academic All-American."
Crosier, a sport marketing and management major, recorded the fourth highest GPA on the three honored teams.
On the field, Crosier flourished in his first season as a starter. Working his way to the No. 1 spot in the rotation, the southpaw started 10 games and finished the campaign with three wins and a 4.14 ERA. Crosier added three complete games in 63 innings of work, including a nine-inning gem against Illinois (May 14). The Corydon, Ind., native limited the Fighting Illini to three earned runs and five strikeouts as the Hoosiers took three out of four for the only time in 2006.
To be eligible, a student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution. Since the programs inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
