BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 6-seeded Indiana softball team is set to take on No. 3-seeded Iowa in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday, May 12, at 9 a.m. The two teams will meet for the third time this season, splitting their regular-season series.
The Hoosiers are making their first appearance in the conference tournament since 1996, and only their third appearance overall in the tournament which first ran in 1982 and then started again in 1995. In 1996, then No.4-seeded Indiana was eliminated by No. 1-seeded Michigan and No.3-seeded Iowa in the double elimination event.
The three-day event begins on Thursday, May 11, when No. 2-seeded Michigan takes on No. 7-seeded Michigan State at 2 p.m., and No. 1-seeded Northwestern battles No. 8-seeded Illinois at 4:30 p.m.
On Friday, Indiana opens with a 9 a.m. contest against Iowa, followed by No. 4-seeded Ohio State taking on No. 5-seeded Penn State at 11:30 a.m.
In the single elimination tournament, should Indiana advance, they will take on the winner of the Michigan/Michigan State contest.
