BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Newly appointed Indiana women's basketball head coach Felisha Legette-Jack announced the dates of the Indiana Girls Basketball Camps during the 2006 summer. The camps give young players a chance to develop their skills with the help of personal coaching tips from IU coaches and players, as well as personalized evaluations of each camper.
The Indiana Girls Basketball Camp begins with the Elite Camp on June 16-18. The camp is designed for players in grades 9-12 and focuses on individual position development, as well as all around skill improvement. Campers will improve through teaching progressions, position specific drills and individual attention from the Indiana coaching staff. Registration runs from Noon-2 p.m., Friday, June 16th. The camp begins at 2 p.m. that day and will run through Noon on Sunday, June 18. Cost is $185 for overnight campers, which includes meals and lodging, and $165 for commuters (meals included).
The Team Shootout camp follows, and is intended for team's entering grades 7-12. The camp runs from June 19-21 and cost is $200 per overnight camper (includes meals and lodging) and $175 per commuter (meals included). The Team Shootout provides a great opportunity for a team to grow and develop through challenging competition. Each team will be guaranteed at least nine games in pool play against appropriate opponents to ensure competitive games. The camp will feature three divisions: Junior High, Freshmen/Junior Varsity and Varsity. Additionally, there will also be a presentation on weight training and speed and agility training from the Indiana Strength & Conditioning Staff, as well as a coaches forum open to all coaches in attendance. Registration runs from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m., Monday, June 19th. The camp begins at 12 p.m. that day and will run through 4 p.m. on June 21st. Registration deadline is May 15, 2006 or until camp is full.
On June 25-27, the camp welcomes grades 4-12 for a Fundamental Camp (fourth and fifth graders eligible for commuter camp only). The camp is designed to help develop the total basketball player. The coaching staff and players provide detailed instruction on ball handling, passing, dribbling, footwork, defense and rebounding. Campers will participate in league games along with individual competitions. Registration runs from Noon-2 p.m. Sunday, June 25th. The camp begins at 3:00 p.m. that evening and will run through 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27th. The cost of the camp is $275 for overnighters (includes lodging and food) and $250 for commuters (includes meals).
Finally, the women's basketball staff will also conduct a pair of Satellite Camps in late summer. The staff will travel to Nolan Fieldhouse in Sellersburg, Ind., on July 24-25, followed by a trip to The Fieldhouse in Fishers, Ind., on Aug. 1-2. The camp, intended for girls entering grades 5-12, will help develop the total basketball player with individual and team teaching progressions and competitions. Registration runs from 8:30-9:00 a.m. Camp runs from 9 a.m.-Noon, and 1-4 p.m. each day. The cost is $120 per camper (campers must bring their own lunch).
