Bashore Signs National Letter-of-Intent

Matt Bashore has signed a national letter-of-intent to play at Indiana next season.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana baseball head coach Tracy Smith announced on June 14 that left-handed pitcher Matt Bashore has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend Indiana University beginning in the fall semester of 2006. Bashore is the 18th signee in Smith's first recruiting class as Hoosier skipper.

A 6-3, 190-pounder from Tippecanoe, Ohio, Bashore turned in a dominant 2006 campaign for head coach Bruce Cahill and Tipp City High School. En route to first team Central Buckeye Conference and Miami Valley Baseball Coaches Association honors, Bashore went 8-1 with a sterling 1.36 ERA. The southpaw struck out 79 men in 51 1/3 innings of work and tossed a no-hitter with seven punchouts against Urbana High School on April 26.

Bashore enjoyed three seasons as a member of the varsity squad, securing Most Valuable Pitcher accolades each season. He also played four seasons under coach Frosty Brown on the American Legion Post 43 team in Troy, Ohio.

"Matt is somebody we have been following for some time," Smith said. "He is a quality left-hander that knows how to pitch. We look for him to compete for us right away."
