BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Keith Burrus, a 6-2, 269-pound defensive tackle from Indianapolis Ben Davis High School and Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College, has signed a scholarship agreement to continue his collegiate career at Indiana University, IU head coach Terry Hoeppner announced on June 2. Burrus will enroll at Indiana this semester and will officially join the program for preseason camp on Aug. 7.
Hoeppner said that Burrus' signing meets two of the program's objectives - build and maintain a strong, in-state recruiting presence and add speed and athleticism to the Hoosiers' defensive line.
"Keith has been on our recruiting radar for quite some time, and we're excited to have him at Indiana," Hoeppner said. "Ben Davis is one of the premier high school programs in the state, and its players are hard-nosed, fundamentally sound and have a champion's approach in the classroom and on the playing field. Keith has the size, quickness and agility that we're looking for in our defensive line, and he has a bright future ahead of him."
Burrus played offensive tackle and defensive end at Ben Davis, recording 84 tackles (eight for loss), one fumble recovery and one sack. Burrus earned All-Metropolitan Interscholastic Athletic Conference, Indianapolis Star All-West and All-Marion County honors in 2004, and he participated in the Indiana Football Coaches Association North-South All-Star Game with current IU rising sophomores Brandon Walker-Roby, Josh Bailey and Fabiene Boone.
Burrus said that Indiana University provides the best combination of resources for his college career.
"I am really interested in the (Kelley) School of Business, it's so close to home, and I want to play in the Big Ten Conference," Burrus said. "It's a great school and environment, and the football program is on the rise. I want to be a part of that."
