Water Polo Honored for Academic Success

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana water polo team scored recognition for its success in the classroom by the American Water Polo Coaches Association (AWPCA). Five Hoosiers earned AWPCA All-Academic Team honors. The Hoosiers became one of only 22 programs to boast a grade point average of 3.00.
"We are quite proud of the academic success of these student-athletes," Indiana head coach Barry King said. "Their efforts in the classroom are an integral part of the overall success of the water polo program. These student-athletes are fantastic representatives of Indiana University and its athletic department."
Over the last five seasons, the Hoosiers have had a total of 27 Academic All-Americans.
The AWPCA All-Academic team for individual athlete honors is divided into three different categories. The three levels are Excellent (3.2-3.4 GPA), Superior (3.41-3.7) and Outstanding (3.71-4.0). The qualification for CWPA All-Academic standing is that a player must be a starter or major contributor, while also maintaining a 3.2 or higher GPA.
Junior Kristin Zernicke picked up her third consecutive Outstanding award to become the first Hoosier to accomplish the three-peat.
Sophomore Brittany Estrada and senior Janis Pardy each earned Superior standing. Pardy's laurel stands as her second such recognition.
Meanwhile junior Kara Woolley and sophomore Jackie Pyrz picked up Excellent kudos.
