Jenkins, Neville Advance; Fleming Takes 11th

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Indiana men's track and field team turned in another exceptional day at the 2006 Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Sacramento State's Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex on June 9. Wil Fleming finished 11th in the hammer throw, while Kyle Jenkins and David Neville advanced to the finals in the triple jump and 400m, respectively.
In his first appearance in the NCAA Championships, Fleming claimed 11th place in the hammer throw finals. The Bloomington, Ind., native hurled a 62.94m (206-06) on his first attempt. Fleming advanced to the finals after taking 11th in the prelims with a throw of 63.49m (208-04).
Jenkins, a second team All-Big Ten honoree, heads into the finals of the triple jump riding a first-place finish in the prelims. The Kent, Wash., product jumped 15.97m (52-04.75) on his third attempt to push him into tomorrow's finals. Jenkins' personal best in the event was set at the 2006 Big Ten Championships when he posted a 16.04m (52-07.50).
In the semifinals of the 400m, Neville advanced through to the finals with a third-place finish of 45.03. The reigning Big Ten Champion, recorded a personal best in the semifinal run. Neville will compete tomorrow in both the 400m and 4x400m relay finals.
Jenkins, Neville and the 4x400m relay team (Doug Dayhoff, Ryan Smith, Trey Warfield and Neville) will compete for national titles on Saturday, June 10. Live results are available on www.ncaasports.com. Additionally, CBS will air the live broadcast of the final day of competition on Saturday from 3:30-6 p.m. (ET). CBS has televised the NCAA Championships since 1986, but this year marks the first time that the network will broadcast the event live.
