Legette-Jack Finalizes Coach Staff with Cherie Hogg

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana women's basketball head coach Felisha Legette-Jack announced the hiring of Cherie (pronounced Sha-REE) Hogg, as an assistant coach. Hogg joins Vera Jones, Marc Wilson and director of operations Jeana Finlinson in rounding out the Hoosier staff.
Hogg, who spent the last two years as an assistant coach under Legette-Jack at Hofstra, will perform in a similar capacity at Indiana. Hogg was instrumental in helping transform Hofstra into a national postseason tournament team, and Legette-Jack is counting on Hogg to make a similar impact in Bloomington.
"I am very excited that Cherie Hogg chose to join me here at Indiana University," Legette-Jack said. "Cherie will bring enthusiasm, hard work and passion to our program. She is loyal, detailed and is fantastic with individual workouts. She knows exactly how I like to run our program, and she will be the liaison between myself and our Indiana community.
"Cherie and I share similar goals: we both love to work towards winning championships. She has been at the highest level as a player and as a coach, and I am thrilled that we have Cherie Hogg in our Indiana Hoosiers family. She will be responsible for scheduling, pre- and postseason conditioning, recruiting, scouting, on-floor coaching, housing for our student athletes, assistant camp director and community outreach."
After working for Legette-Jack at Hofstra for two seasons, Hogg jumped at the opportunity to follow her boss to Bloomington.
"I'm elated to be here. I'd follow Coach Jack to the end of the earth," Hogg said. "I know her offensive and defensive system and how she wants things. I can be her echo when she is not around."
During Legette-Jack and Hogg's two years at Hofstra, the Pride advanced to the 2006 Women's National Invitation Tournament and Hofstra ranked among the CAA's top three in scoring offense (second, 69.5 ppg), field goal percentage defense (.379), rebounding offense (second, 43.0), rebounding margin (third, +3.9), assists per game (second, 16.0), steals (second, 11.03), offensive rebounds (second, 16.73), defensive rebounding (second, 26.27) and three-point field goals per game (third, 5.37).
Hogg came to Hofstra after two years as an assistant coach at her alma mater, UNLV. She played a large role in several areas of the Rebel program, including scouting, recruiting, compliance, academic liaison and summer camp. Hogg also served as an assistant coach at Washington College in Chestertown, Md., in 1994-95.
Prior to Hogg's tenure as a UNLV assistant coach, she played professional basketball overseas in her native Australia, Holland, Germany, the United Kingdom and Spain. In 2000-01, she helped the Rhondda Rebels in Wales, United Kingdom to a 37-1 record and the National League, National Playoff and National Cup titles. Hogg followed that season by helping Puig Den Valls in Ibiza, Spain to a 30-2 record and the Premier Division championship in 2001-02.
Her professional playing career also included coaching stints with youth programs affiliated with her professional clubs in Holland and Australia, and Hogg served as a police officer for the South Australian Police Department from 1997-2000.
Hogg enjoyed a stellar playing career at UNLV that culminated with the Rebels' appearance in the 1994 NCAA Tournament. Just the fourth player in school history to record 100 assists and 100 steals in the same season, Hogg still holds UNLV single season marks for steals (129) and three-point field goal percentage (.456) and the single-game record for steals (11). She still ranks ninth in career assists at UNLV (319). Hogg was an honorable mention all-league selection as a junior and first team pick as a senior.
A 1994 UNLV graduate with a bachelor's degree in athletic training, Hogg was the 1992 California JUCO Player of the Year at Lassen Community College in Susanville, Calif. She also earned an associate's degree in math and science. Hogg began her basketball career as a member of the Australian "train-on" teams from 1986-88 and earned an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship in 1988.
