Five Hoosiers advance to USASA U-23 Semifinals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Five current or former Indiana University women's soccer are among the members of the Carmel (Ind.) United Cobras that emerged as USASA (United States Adult Soccer Association) Regional Champions. By winning their region, the Cobras advanced to the U-23 National Semifinals, to be played at Pizza Hut Park, the home of MLS's FC Dallas, on August 4-6 in Dallas, Texas.
Senior Ali Brown, juniors Katy Stewart and Suzie Teixeira and sophomore Megan Reinhardt joined former Hoosier goalkeeper and current undergraduate assistant coach Lauren Fabbro to help the Cobras advance to the single-elimination semifinals. The Cobras, coached by Carmel High School head coach Frank Dixon, went to Dayton, Ohio, for the regional finals and defeated the Illinois representatives 3-1. Fabbro made four saves in the contest, while Stewart registered an assist in the victory.
In the second game of the weekend, the Cobras upended Kansas by a score of 5-2. Teixeira scored a goal for Carmel and Reinhardt played the entire contest and made six saves in a winning effort.
The Hoosiers kick off the 2006 season with an exhibition contest against Indiana State on Aug. 19 in Fort Wayne, Ind. IU will begin its regular season against California in the Wisconsin Tournament on Aug. 25 in Madison, Wis.
