McKay Picks Up Honor at Pete Newell Camp

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana center Sarah McKay spent July 11-13 at the legendary Pete Newell's Tall Women's Basketball Camp, earning Player with Most Improvement honors.
"It was three days of fundamentals with a lot of repetition, and I got to work with really great coaches," McKay said. "It was an amazing experience."
The three-day camp, which ran at Alliant International University in San Diego, Calif., is one of the premier post camps in the country that features instruction on footwork and body balance, fundamentals, individual offense and defense, movement without the ball, post moves, progressive teaching development one-on-one and two-on-two, and post defense and defensive positioning.
"Sarah made a strong, positive impression to all of the coaches at camp," Pete Newell, Jr., a coach on the camp staff, said. "She came to camp with a great attitude, punctuated with an exemplary work ethic. She never took a play off on any drill she was involved in. "
"We really believe that Sarah McKay is the best-kept secret here at Indiana," IU head coach Felisha Legette-Jack said. "She had the opportunity to go out and work with the best post coaches in the country in Pete Newell and his son and she took it on. She challenged herself and did some fantastic things."
The 6-7, Victoria, B.C., native came off the bench to lead the Hoosiers in scoring with a season-high 13 points against Illinois on Jan. 26, 2006. McKay also recorded season highs of six rebounds and two assists against the Fighting Illini. She played in 19 games and averaged 1.7 and 1.0 rebounds per game as an IU reserve.
McKay returns as one of five upperclassmen from last season's 19-14 squad that made a trip to the WNIT quarterfinals.
