Get to Know Coach Phillips

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Stacey Phillips, now entering her third season as head coach for Indiana, took time to share with Hoosier fans a little bit about her self and her expectations for next season.
In 2006, Phillips led IU to its first Big Ten and NCAA Tournament appearances since 1996. The Hoosiers capped last season with a 30-25-1 overall record.
What are you most looking forward to next season?
SP: I am most looking forward to coaching and developing the team, then going on the ride they take us on as coaches.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?
SP: My parents (Dale and Paula) and brother (Joel) because they have been so supportive, and they are still seen in the stands cheering on the team.
Favorite quote and why?
SP: "It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!" -Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks) in A League of Their Own This is Division I Big Ten softball. My job is to give the student-athletes the Big Ten experience. If it were easy, I wouldn't be doing my job and the student-athletes wouldn't be the people or the players they are when they are done at Indiana.
Most memorable IU softball moment and why?
SP: Beating Iowa in the Big Ten Tournament, which catapulted us into the NCAA Tournament.
What IU sport, other than softball, would you play and why?
SP: Basketball because at one point in my life I could jump!
Favorite place on IU's campus and why?
SP: Assembly Hall. I love my office and the atmosphere is amazing
What was your major and why?
SP: I graduated from Michigan State with an audiology speech science degree.
Place I would most like to travel to and why?
SP: I'd like to go on a cruise.
What are some of the team's goals for next season?
SP: To continue the upward trend of improvements and to return to the Big Ten Tournament and NCAA Tournament.
Most prized possession:
SP: My dog, Homerun "Derby"!
Greatest accomplishment:
SP: My dream was to be a head coach in the Big Ten-so far so good!
