Indiana to Host Leg of ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University will host a leg of the 2006 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Collegiate Summer Circuit presented by the United States Tennis Association (USTA). The last of four Midwest tournaments will be held in Bloomington, July 27-30 at IU's Varsity Tennis Courts.
The ITA Summer Circuit is made up of five regional circuits (East, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest and West) with each region sponsoring four consecutive tournaments played in the month of July, concluding with the National Summer Championships. The Circuit, which provides college tennis players an opportunity to compete in organized tournaments in the summer, is the product of Indiana head women's tennis coach Lin Loring. Over 15,000 student-athletes have participated in ITA's summer play since the tournament's inception in 1993.
Indiana will host the Summer National Championships for the sixth consecutive year, Aug. 12-16. The men's and women's singles and doubles champions of the Summer Championships will earn a bid to the ITA All-American Championships.
Last season, former Hoosier Sarah Batty and rising senior Laura McGaffigan claimed the Summer Championships' doubles title with an 8-3 win over North Carolina's Meg Fanjoy and Austin Smith, becoming the first Hoosier doubles team to earn a bid to the ITA All-American Tournament since Deborah Edelman and Rachel Epstein accomplished the feat in 1992.
