Hoosier Volleyball Reports To Preseason Camp

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana volleyball team officially opened the 2006 season early this week with the beginning of preseason camp on Aug. 7. With a trio of talented newcomers and 10 returning players from last year's squad, the Hoosiers are looking to improve on their 9-23 record from a year ago.
"I'm really looking forward to this camp," said senior defensive specialist Sara Diehl. "Having so many returning players, everyone knows the ropes and we can start out focused on improving from last year."
As the team's primary libero in 2005, Diehl picked up 360 digs on the season, a number which stands as the seventh-most in school history. She also earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V third team honors for her athletic and academic success last season.
With three days of practice under their belts already, Diehl and the rest of the Hoosiers feel that things are going well and have their eyes on erasing the memory of last season from their minds.
"Everything is going well so far," said Diehl. "We start at square one and slowly build up to things, and I'm excited to start doing more team stuff, having six people on the court at the same time. Everyone is really excited. With so many returning players, having the experience and memory of last year will definitely help light a fire with us."
To kick off the 2006 campaign, the Hoosiers will hold their annual Cream and Crimson scrimmage in Assembly Hall on Aug. 19 following the football scrimmage that same day. The regular season will begin for IU on Aug. 25 when the Hoosiers will take on Akron at 5:00 p.m. at the West Virginia Tournament.
