McCarthy, Ishtuganov Reach Third Round of ITA Summer National Championships

Bloomington, Ind. - Junior Michael McCarthy and former Hoosier Dmytro Ishtuganov both won their opening matches to reach the third round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Summer National Championship, Aug. 12-16 at the IU Varsity Tennis Courts.
Both McCarthy and Ishtuganov had first-round byes to start the day.
McCarthy won his first match against George Navas of Michigan, 6-4, 6-3. He will play Andrew Stubbs of Wofford at 8 a.m. to begin the fourth round on Sunday, Aug. 12.
Ishutganov, who is seeded first in the tournament, defeated Peter Aarts of Michigan 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (8) in his second-round match. He will face Lennie Gullan of North Carolina at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
McCarthy finished his sophomore season with a 20-17 overall record, while Ishutganov recently completed his four years of eligibility for the Hoosiers. He had a career-high 21 singles wins in his senior season.
