As the Hoosiers wind down the second week of preseason camp and look toward their first scrimmage of the season on Saturday, Aug. 19, freshman quarterback Ben Chappell took a few minutes to talk to IUHOOSIERS.com as he prepares for the 2006 season.
My alarm clock went off about 6:15, then I rode the bus to breakfast. After breakfast, we had a team meeting at 7:30. At the meeting, Coach Canada woke us up with a game, then flipped on the film. We watched film for about an hour and a half.
From there, I headed to academic orientation, which is required for the freshmen. We talked about some things, one day we took a library tour.
Between orientation and practice, I had the chance to take an hour nap.
I came back to campus where we had another meeting, this one being a position meeting in the quarterback room. We talked about all of our reads as well as some new routes we're putting in.
During practice today, we started with Hoosier Jacks, then went to warm up our arms and get ready. From there, we went over to do some quarterback footwork drills, started throwing routes on air, went to 7-on-7 and then finished with the team drill.
I feel pretty good about how I played today. I was doing well with the signals that we learned in our team meeting and was throwing it in routes on air.
Coming from high school, the speed of the players on the field is the biggest thing that I've had to get used to. The wide receivers are super fast, and I have had to get used to throwing them the ball. It's been an adjustment, but I'm getting better at it every day.
