As the Hoosiers prepare for the 2006 campaign, junior midfielder Amanda Oyler took time out of her busy day to give IUHOOSIERS.com a glimpse of what preseason camp is all about.
August 16, 2006
Today, we began with practice at our normal time of 9-11 a.m. Everyone quickly exited Mellencamp afterwards, showered and ate lunch. It was the big day...the Hoosier Challenge! Our teams were groups of four, and we had yet to find out the different challenges we would be competing in. Of course everyone had their "special touches" like headbands, shirts, bling-bling, or simply not matching as all like "Team Ugly."
Our first challenge was in Assembly Hall on the famous Branch McCracken Court. First, we played two games of knock-out and then a very intense 3-on-3 basketball game. IU basketball would have been proud at our mad skills! Next up, we headed to the IU golf course and did putting and driving like golfing pros. Everyone did pretty well.
Afterwards, we packed up and went camping near Lake Monroe. Time for canoe races! All teams did well, even though Meredith (Brown) and Dani (Castro) had some complications going straight. All we saw was their canoe going back and forth across the lake. One more challenge remained, and we took a break to hang out, throw frisbee, and of course EAT (what we're best known for)!!!
As the last challenge approached, Gina explained the rules. We were to make some kind of skit that sent a message. All the teams separated for a while and then came back to deliver total creativity.
We all were rolling and laughing so much!! So drum roll, the overall Challenge winner was announced....my team, Team #1 consisting of me, Morgan Miller, Lucy Ireland, Margie Stoll, and Brittney Hacken!!! But props to all groups, everyone was great. We finished the day by sitting around the campfire at night and talking about anything and everything. Such a great night with IUFH!
