Throughout the 2006 preseason, IUHOOSIERS.com will be taking an insider's look at the women's soccer team. Each day from Aug. 8-23, a different member of the team will be keeping a diary of the day's events. The entry for Saturday, Aug. 19 is by freshman Jenny Ball:
Today was our first game!
Mind you it was only an exhibition game, but it was great to finally play someone else than a fellow teammate. The day's festivities began when we had a quite scrumptious "brunch" in the ever-so-popular training tables at Memorial Stadium. Then, with bellies full of food and ambition, we embarked on our journey to the city of Fort Wayne to battle against the Sycamores of Indiana State.
Snoozing was the main highlight of our trip, until we stopped for a short but necessary bathroom break. Feeling a bit feminine today, I suppose, Ian wandered into the ladies' restroom instead of the men's bathroom. A whole lot of questioning and a few raised eyebrows later we decided to press on and reach for our destination.
The game went extremely well. We ended up beating Indiana State 4-0. I must announce that two freshmen scored goals. I think this game really proved that we can score this season, and at any position because we had defenders, midfielders, and forwards scoring goals. Way to go girls!!
We encountered an unusual post-game dilemma when our bus blew something and we had to wait for a new bus to come pick us up. This time was filled with good food and lively chatter. As I write this, we're back on the bus heading home and I am going to try to get some sleep.
Stay classy sports fans.
