Throughout the 2006 preseason, IUHOOSIERS.com will be taking an insider's look at the women's soccer team. Each day from Aug. 8-23, a different member of the team will be keeping a diary of the day's events. The entry for Tuesday, Aug. 22 is by junior Kristin Radcliffe:
OHHH HELLO!
Well it all started at Monday night's practice when Coach Lyon announced that we wouldn't be having 6:30 a.m. running or 9 a.m. practice. It was very difficult for the team to hide their glee. So with no practice, we received the privilege of sleeping in. I definitely woke up exactly at 6:30 and was thinking, "Wow, we would be running right now." But no, I was lying snugly in my bed.
We also didn't have to wake up for breakfast so Katy Stewart, Shannon Vnoucek and I decided to take advantage of the beautiful morning and head out for bagels. It was scrumptious and we sat outside. As a side note, I would like to add that Stewie had not just one bagel, but two. That a girl.
The first activity we had was treatment at 10 a.m. Good ol' treatment. Everyone was in there ice bathing, doing rehab or just plain icing and recovering. The training room is always a good time. It's like a second home.
After treatment, we reconvened in the frigid Hoosier room for a chalk talk on the formation of Cal Berkley and defensive strategies. It's always a good idea to have chalk talks and a plan so we know what we are up against. Questions were asked and answered. We then proceeded to eat lunch at the delectable training tables.
After lunch, we had a meeting with "Winning Ways" speaker Rob Kehoe. He spoke to us two years earlier and I know his son, which is kind of cool. I actually saw and talked to him at a gas station in Geneva, Ill. before I was even a freshman. How crazy is that! What a small world. But anyways, he is a great speaker and we filled out worksheets about different aspects of life and how they relate to each other. We looked at ways to meet our potential and so on. It was an in-depth, helpful meeting and we also have one tomorrow morning.
The little (irony intended) freshman had another meeting with Rob as the upperclassmen left the premises. The froshies also had the pleasure of receiving a campus tour from the captains. I was a little worried when Lindsay McCarthy was asking me where all the buildings were, but I don't think anyone got too lost. Well done, team.
We had our normal practice time from 5-7 p.m. with a long, but fun, warm-up from the witty Ian. We then proceeded to scrimmage 11-v-11 for an hour. We are definitely looking good and are going to be ready for our opening weekend. The Big 10 coaches ranked us ninth and out of the tournament, but they are going to be greatly mistaken when IU shows up to play them all!
