Sophomore forward Brian Ackley scored both of Indiana's preseason goals, with a goal against Maryland and a goal against UIC. He sat down with IUHOOSIERS.com to answer a few questions about himself.
Since coming to Indiana, I've learned:
I've learned to be a complete player, on and off the field. You learn time management with balancing school and soccer.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Hopefully playing professional ball, if not, something to do with soccer. Maybe coaching in college or with a club. But something to do with soccer. I would love to go overseas if that was an option, but I'd do anything.
What is your favorite sport besides soccer?
Football. I like the Miami Dolphins. Dan Marino was one of my favorite players.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
Disneyland. I really liked Space Mountain.
What is your favorite soccer memory?
When my club team (CASL Elite) went to the national championship (2001).
Why do you wear number 13?
It was the number that they gave me, and I've kind of grown to like it. Maybe I can make it a number here. Unlucky thirteen, maybe I'll make it lucky.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Argentina.
Name one thing that you wish you were better at?
Faster, I definitely wish I was faster.
What makes Indiana special from any other program?
The push for excellence. The fact that they accept nothing less, and they push all the players to understand the tradition. It's kind of cool to try to walk in the footsteps of past players.
What do you like best about Coach Freitag?
He really helps you learn and understand the game. For me particularly, it's my first time playing forward and he's helped motivate me, keeping me going and learning new things.
