Ackley Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Sophomore forward Brian Ackley has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Aug. 28. In addition, he was named National Player of the Week by College Soccer News for the week ending Aug. 27.
Ackley, native of Cary, North Carolina, scored two goals and had one assist for the Hoosiers in victories against No. 8 Creighton and UAB.
"I'm proud of the way that Brian has played so far this season," said head coach Mike Freitag. "He came back to school with a renewed determination, and I expect to see great things from him this season and throughout his career."
Against Creighton, Ackley's header in the 106th minute of play led Indiana to a 1-0 win over the Bluejays on Friday, Aug. 25 in the first game of the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament in South Bend, Ind. He followed that performance by scoring the first goal of the game against UAB to help give the Hoosiers a 2-1 victory.
Ackley was named the Offensive MVP of the tournament. Indiana finished first in the final tournament standings with six total points.
The Hoosiers return to the field on Friday, Sept. 1, to host the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic, featuring No. 12 Indiana, No. 15 Notre Dame, No. 2 Connecticut and Saint Louis. Indiana will face Connecticut in its first game at 7:30 p.m.
