On The Road With Allison Regas

Throughout the 2006 season, IUHOOSIERS.com will take a look inside the IU volleyball team from the player's perspective. Up first is freshman Allison Regas, who tells us what it was like on her first collegiate roadtrip to the West Virginia Tournament.
We started off the weekend with a plane trip to Morgantown, W.Va., on Thursday, which was very scary for me because the plane was so small! But after the hour-long plane flight we landed and got straight onto the tour bus right on the runway, which was cool because we did not have to go through any security and it made everything so easy. We just went to bed and then got to sleep in until 10 a.m. the next day.
On Friday, we went to our first pre-game meal of the year, and for me it was so cool to walk into the restaurant and see our names on our seats and our salads waiting for us on the table. Then, we went off to the gym and started our warm up. We played Akron first and swept them in three games. It was really fun to win my first college match.
Saturday was a lot of the same. We had a pre-game meal, warmed up and then played. We played Oakland first. We had a chance to scout them before we played because we had watched them the night before. I've done scouting before but in high school, but it was never this detailed. We played well against Oakland and swept them in three as well. After another pre-game meal, we played West Virginia to win the tournament. We also beat them in three games, and we were all so excited to win our first tournament and come away with a 3-0 record.
Our trip back to Bloomington was a little different to say the least. We had to rush to the airport because it was closing at 11 p.m., and we were planning on flying back that night. So we boarded the plane and ended up landing in Louisville, Ken. There were such bad storms above Bloomington that we were unable to land. After two hours of waiting for the storm to move, we took off only to land in Indianapolis. This time the pilots couldn't find the airport because of the cloud coverage. Finally we made it back to Bloomington around four in the morning. So it was a pretty eventful night to end a really fun weekend. We all played really hard and it paid off. I think we are all really excited to have our first home tournament this weekend!
Regas, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., played in all nine games during the Hoosiers run at the West Virginia Tournament. The setter had four kills in the tournament and 45 assists. She also chipped in two digs and four block assists in those three matches. Regas and the Hoosiers will return to action on Friday, Sept. 1, when they host Marshall in the first round of the TIS Bookstore Invitational in University Gymnasium.
