Former Hoosier Shannon Johnson Captures Title

YANKTON, S.D. - Shannon Johnson, a 2005 IU graduate, won her third-straight South Dakota Two-Woman Championship in August. Johnson and partner Allison Stewart carded rounds of 67 and 61 for a 16-under par total of 128 to earn their third title in a row at Fox Run Golf Course.
En route to that final round 61, Johnson recorded six birdies and two eagles and would have shot 63 on her own ball. Earlier in the summer, the former Hoosier captured her fourth-consecutive South Dakota Women's Amatuer Championship on the first playoff hole after shooting a three-day total of 223 (75-74-74). With that victory, she became just the fourth woman in South Dakota history to win four-straight championships.
"I am pleased and proud that Shannon is continuing to have success in golf," head coach Clint Wallman said. "She had a great college career and she is continuing that with her success now."
Johnson, who spent just one year in Bloomington after transfering from New Mexico, made an impact on the Hoosier record books in her short time on campus. Her career stroke average of 74.38 was good for second all-time at IU. She captured two individual titles and was named first team All-Big Ten. Johnson was also a two-time Big Ten Golfer of the Week in 2005-06 and recieved GolfWeek and GolfWorld National Player of the Week honors after she shattered the school record in winning the UNLV Spring Invitational with a five-under par 211.
