Hoosiers Set for Showdown with Cardinals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 10 Indiana Hoosiers will take on Ball State on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 2 p.m. (ET) in Muncie, Ind., at BSU Turf Field. Indiana enters the contest 1-1 on the season, while the Cardinals are 0-2.
THE BALL STATE SERIES
The contest marks the eighth meeting between Indiana and Ball State. The series is tied 3-3-1. The last time the two in-state programs met was on Sept. 3, 2004, in Bloomington when IU recorded the 3-0 win. This season, the Hoosiers and the Cardinals met in IU's first preseason match on Aug. 18, in which Indiana claimed the 5-3 victory.
SCOUTING BSU
Ball State enters the contest with Indiana with an 0-2 record. The Cardinals suffered losses to William and Mary (4-1) and Northwestern (4-3). BSU closed the 2005 season 4-14 overall and 3-7 in Mid-American Conference (MAC) play. Ball State is led by reigning MAC Player of the Week Lindsay Quay (3 goals) and Katie Kloeckener (1 goal). In goal for the Cardinals is Caroline Lehman, who has recorded 19 saves and a goals against average of 4.00 so far this season.
100-POINT SCORER
Senior forward Lydia Schrott is on pace to become Indiana's first 100-point scorer in program history. Heading into the Ball State match, Schrott has 83 career points.
HATS OFF
Senior All-American forward Lydia Schrott recorded her third career hat trick against Longwood on Aug. 27. The three-goal performance marked the only the fourth time in program history a Hoosier has accomplished this feat.
TEAM CAPTAINS
Indiana seniors Morgan Miller and Lydia Schrott, along with junior Meredith Brown, have been voted tri-captains by their teammates for the 2006 campaign.
VS. THE MAC Indiana is 15-7-1 all-time against MAC opponents. Behind the Big Ten, the Hoosiers have faced more teams from MAC than any other conference. Three of IU's 15 victories over MAC foes have been over Ball State.
HOOSIERS RANKED TENTH
The Indiana field hockey team earned a No. 10 ranking in the preseason STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll released on Aug. 21. Of the Hoosiers' 18 regular season opponents, eight are ranked in the top 20.
The Hoosiers, who closed 2005 ranked No. 9 nationally, are one of six Big Ten teams to earn a ranking and one of three to be recognized in the top 10.
LEAGUE LEADERS
Indiana can be found throughout the Aug. 28 Big Ten standings. After the first weekend of play, the Hoosiers lead the conference in scoring margin (2.00), shutouts (1), goals against average (1.50), goals scored (7), penalty corner (21) and defensive saves (1).
Individually, junior back Morgan Miller leads the Big Ten in shots (9), defensive saves (1) and is second in goals with two. Senior forward Lydia Schrott leads the league in points (8) and goals (4). Junior goalkeeper Haley Exner is the conference leader in GAA (1.66).
UP NEXT
The Hoosiers will travel to Ohio next week to take on Miami (Ohio) on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The match is slated for 5 p.m. (ET). On Friday, IU returns to Ohio to take on Ohio University on Friday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. (ET), before facing Radford at Ohio University at 2 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, Sept. 9.
