Football Kickoff Luncheon, Pep Rally Slated for Aug. 24

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The 2006 IU Football Kickoff Luncheon and the IU Football Pep Rally will both be held on Thursday, Aug. 24 and will be hosted by Emmis Communications in Indianapolis. The luncheon will take place at the Omni Severin Hotel and kick off at noon, while the pep rally will be held at Monument Circle starting at 11 a.m.
Hoosier Head Coach Terry Hoeppner and Athletics Director Rick Greenspan will speak at the luncheon to preview the upcoming season. Indiana play-by-play announcer Don Fischer will serve as master of ceremonies.

Hoeppner and Greenspan will speak at the rally before heading to the luncheon. The IU Marching Hundred, IU Cheerleaders, the IU Varsity Club and members of the 1968 Rose Bowl team will be on-hand at the pep rally, and a limited number of Kids Zone activities will be available for young Hoosier fans. The IU Varsity Shop will provide fans with the opportunity to purchase their favorite IU merchandise. WIBC's Vince Welch and Fischer will serve as co-master of ceremonies.
Additionally, the IU Athletic Ticket Office will be on-site at the pep rally offering $15 tickets to the season-opening Western Michigan contest as well as season tickets for $189, a savings of 10 percent off the regular price, if purchased that day.
The IU Football Kickoff Luncheon and the IU Football Pep Rally are two of several Hoosier preseason promotional opportunities. Thursday, Aug. 10 is Indiana University Day at the Indiana State Fair. Fairgoers are encouraged to see how IU helps the lives of Indiana residents every day at more than 60 interactive exhibits on Expo Hall Street. In addition, there will be two pep rallies featuring special guests, including the IU Marching Hundred, IU Cheerleaders, IU President Adam W. Herbert, Greenspan and Hoeppner.
The Hoosiers will host their Fan Appreciation Day on Saturday, Aug. 19. Activities begin at 11 a.m. with players and coaches available for autographs until noon. A limited number of Kids Zone activities will be available for young Hoosier fans. Fans who have not purchased season tickets will have the opportunity to select their own seat at the stadium until 2 p.m. The IU Ticket Office staff will be on hand to escort fans to available seats and answer any questions. Concession stands will open at 11 a.m. with a full game day menu available including pulled pork, pizza and ice cream.
Indiana will take the field at 12:30 p.m. for warm-ups prior to the Hoosiers' lone scrimmage of fall camp, which will begin at 1 p.m.
IU opens the 2006 campaign at Memorial Stadium against Western Michigan on Saturday, Sept. 2 with a 6 p.m. start time. The game will also serve as Youth Football Day. Youth football players, coaches and families may purchase tickets for $10 each, a $27 savings from the game day price of $37.
