Throughout the 2006 preseason, IUHOOSIERS.com will be taking an insider's look at the women's soccer team. Every day from Aug. 8-23, a different member of the team will be keeping a diary of the day's events. Tuesday, Aug. 8's entry is by junior tri-captain Shannon Vnoucek:
Today was the day we reported to "preseason," the day that summer ended and fall began. The usual preseason routine took place; physicals, compliance, team meeting, equipment (which, by the way, is a lot nicer than in the past, thanks Erika!), and our beginning of the year ice-breaker barbecue.
It was really nice to see everyone, meet the parents, mingle, eat, and relax. The food was pretty good and I think we would all have to agree the cookies were delicious!
Tomorrow is the first official day of preseason. I'm really nervous for our fitness test in the morning, but excited to practice! Many of us stayed here during the summer in order to prepare ourselves for the season. I think that our hard work over the summer will really show and hopefully Coach Lyon will be happy with our results.
Our first exhibition game is only 11 days away in Fort Wayne. I'm sure Coach will do his best to prepare us in the short time, but everyone seems to be excited to get back out on the field.
As Coach Rickerby would say, "64 or Bust! If you don't know what it means -figure it out!"
Until next time,
Shannon Vnoucek
