Hoosiers Lead After First Day of Badger Invitational

VERONA, Wis. - After the first 36-holes of play, the Indiana University women's golf team leads the Badger Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin. The Hoosiers carded a two-round total of 620 (313-307) to stand two strokes ahead of Oklahoma entering the final round of play.
Individually, junior Elaine Harris is tied for third place after the first two rounds. Harris carded a team-low 74 in the first round of the day and followed it up by a 77 in the afternoon 18 to finish the day with a total of 151.
Following Harris are three freshmen making their Indiana debuts at the tournament. Kellye Belcher will enter the third round on Monday in seventh place after turning in a 153 (77-76) on the first day. Laura Nochta shares 11th place with a total of 156 (80-76) and Anita Gahir is tied for 21st with a 160 (82-78) for the first 36-holes.
Rounding out the Hoosier lineup is sophomore Amber Lindgren, who stands in 63rd position with a two-round total of 177 (89-88).
Michelle Regan of Kansas State turned in the lowest total of the day, finishing the first 36-holes at 146 (75-71), one stroke ahead of Adrienne White of Louisville. White wrapped up the day with a total of 147 (71-76).
"I am very happy with the way the team played today," head coach Clint Wallman said. "The conditions were very tough, and the team played solidly, and did exceptionally well, especially in the afternoon. Our focus is to take care of our own business and not to worry about other teams, but if we play well tomorrow, we could still be right in it."
The Hoosiers will wrap up the tournament with an 18-hole final round on Monday, Sept. 11. The round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. EST.
