BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana head coach Terry Hoeppner is the honorary chair for the 2006 Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Indiana "50 Men In 50 Days" campaign. Starting Sept. 16 and continuing through Nov. 20, Big Brothers Big Sisters hopes to recruit 50 new male volunteers to become Big Brothers.
The campaign starts with the Arby's Great Big tailgate prior to the Hoosiers' Sept. 16 game against Southern Illinois (4 p.m., Memorial Stadium). The tailgate kicks off at 2:30 p.m. on the east side of the stadium, and it provides community members with an opportunity to enjoy great food and learn more about the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
Hoeppner has already embraced his role as a spokesman for the organization.
"I am honored to be asked to be a part of this, because mentoring is something that I hope to do every day," Hoeppner said. "The operating code for this football program is that `small boys become big men because of the influence of big men who care about small boys.' I challenge our players every day - there are a lot of little eyes watching them, and let's make sure that they are seeing the right thing."
