During the 2006 season, IUHOOSIERS.com will give women's soccer fans an insider's look at what it's like to be a member of the team. Every Tuesday, a different Hoosier will bring her view of the weekend's events to IUHOOSIERS.com. The entry for Tuesday, Sept. 12, is by junior Stacey Van Boxmeer.
What a weekend in Bloomington, between winning the Old National Bank tournament, our parents being here and Kristin Radcliffe's 21st birthday, the women's soccer team experienced it all.
Our first game on Friday night was a 1-0 win against a very good Northern Arizona team. The girls are starting to understand each other on the field and beginning to play the way that we know we can. After the game everyone got to hang out with their family and friends who drove miles to see them. Much appreciated, by the way - thanks guys!
Saturday was more of a relaxing day while the parents all went out and showed off their skill on the golf course. We hear they are very good, what with all the mulligans and kicks of the ball that were being used throughout the course. While the parents were golfing, it was a good time for us girls to get caught up on some of that homework that we thoroughly enjoy, and then get prepared for the final game of the Classic.
When Sunday's game time came everyone was pumped up and ready to show what we can do and win a trophy, which coach so badly wanted for his office. With the support of our parents and continuous enthusiasm from the IU Band, our team could not lose. With two goals from Carrie DeFreece and a backline that would make any goalkeeper happy we came out with the title and coach's trophy.
On the weekend we not only received the trophy but also the entire back line received all-tournament honors as well as the team receiving MVP's on both the offensive and defensive sides. Congratulations ladies, and all I can say is this is only the beginning!
