Inside The Lady Northern Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After a very successful opening weekend, the Indiana University women's golf team will travel to East Lansing, Mich., this weekend for the Lady Northern Invitational. The tournament, hosted by Michigan State University, will take place at Forest Akers West Golf Course on Sept. 16-17.
The event consists of three rounds, with 36 holes played on Saturday and the final 18 holes taking place on Sunday. Along with Indiana and Michigan State, 10 other teams will comprise the field. Big Ten rivals Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin join the Hoosiers and the Spartans in the field, which will be rounded out by Kent State and Toledo.
Tournament play begins Saturday with a shotgun start in the morning and the second round following immediately after. On Sunday, the final round will commence at 8:00 a.m. as a shotgun start. Live scoring will be available for the tournament at www.golfstat.com.
This will be the 23rd year that the Hoosiers have competed in the Lady Northern Invitational. Indiana has captured the team title nine times (1984-86, 1989, 1992-96), and Hoosiers have also earned medalist honors on six different occasions. The most recent IU golfer to win the event was Erin Carney in 1998.
Last season, IU hosted the tournament at the Indiana University Golf Course. The Hoosiers placed fifth with a total of 909 (307-297-305) in the event, and Elaine Harris led the Cream and Crimson with a share of 12th place after carding a total of 223 (75-75-73).
