Indiana Game Notes
Indiana vs. Southern Illinois
Sept. 16, 2006
• Marcus Thigpen's 3-yard run in the first quarter was the first touchdown run in the sophomore's career. Thigpen has three career touchdown receptions and one kickoff return to go along with his TD run. Thigpen became the first Hoosier since Duane Gunn (1981) to score on a rush, a reception and a kickoff return in the same season.
• Kellen Lewis' 9-yard touchdown pass to Nick Polk marked the first touchdown reception of Polk's career.
• The first quarter fumble by Nick Hill was forced by redshirt freshman Austin Thomas and recovered by freshman Will Patterson. It marked the first forced fumble and fumble recovery in each player's respective career.
• After Kellen Lewis started Saturday's contest, he became the third different Hoosier to start under center this season. The last time IU had three different starting QBs was 1986, when Dave Kramme, Brian Dewitz and Dave Schnell did so for the Hoosiers.
• Before Braden Jones' touchdown near the end of the first half, the Hoosiers had gone 60:08 without allowing any points to their opponents.
• SIU's 23 passing yards in the opening half was the lowest total in a half since Nicholls State went without a passing yard in the first half of the Hoosiers' win on Sept. 10, 2005.
• The Hoosiers scored three rushing touchdowns in a game for the first time since Nov. 5, 2005, against Minnesota. In that game, Chris Taylor had two rushing touchdowns and Blake Powers added one for the Hoosiers.
• Kellen Lewis' 40 pass attempts were the most by a Hoosier since Blake Powers threw 43 passes against Minnesota on Nov. 5, 2005.
