"Jam The Gym" Set For Sept. 30

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University volleyball team will be hosting the first annual "Jam The Gym" event during its match against Big Ten rival Ohio State on Sept. 30. All tickets to the match will be $1 , and as a IU Credit Union promotion, the first 500 fans will receive a free Indiana volleyball gift. The match, held at University Gym, will begin at 7 p.m.
At "Jam The Gym," the Hoosiers will look to their fans to break the University Gym attendance record. This will be an exciting opportunity to see two teams from one of the premier collegiate volleyball conferences in the nation do battle and a great way to support the Hoosiers as they open Big Ten play at home. This season also marks the first season of the new, state-of-the-art playing surface at the University Gym.
In addition to "Jam The Gym," the match on Sept. 30 will also be High School and Middle School night, in which volleyball teams from across the state of Indiana are invited to attend the match free of charge. All interested parties need to fill out the roster sheet that is available at Volleyball Promotions and return it by Sept. 27. Those teams that participate will then check in at the ticket table once arriving at University Gym.
"It would be great to set a new attendance record at University Gym this year with this team," head coach Katie Weismiller said. "They have worked so hard, both in preseason and now during the season. We will be playing one of the best teams in the country and would love to achieve one of our goals in setting a new record against Ohio State."
Entering Big Ten play, the IU volleyball team has a record of 9-3 on the season. The Hoosiers opened the season with a record of 5-0, the best start to a season since 2000. All five of those wins came in three-game matches, which is the first time in program history that that milestone has occured. In two of the four tournaments that they participated in to start the year, the Hoosiers came away with victories, including wrapping up the tournament season with a sweep of all three opponents to take the IU Credit Union Invitational on Sept. 16-17. Sophomore Erica Short was also named the Most Valuable Player of the IU Credit Union Invitational and was a member of the All-Tournament Team at all three of the Hoosiers' other tournaments.
