Indiana head coach Terry Hoeppner Quotes
Head Coach Terry Hoeppner
Opening statement
"As I just told the team, a win is a win. We needed this win. The team needed it, the program needed it and I'm proud of our player and coaches, but we have so much to work on. We can build on both the positive and negative. Too many self-inflicted wounds, penalties and turnovers. I thought the defense really came out and played well. We needed to play somebody, we had some newcomers and a lot of guys playing a position for the first time. This is a young football team and there is a lot of room for improvement, and that is the good news. Our job as coaches is to critique in a positive manner and tomorrow will be a learning and teaching day for the football team. I'm really proud of the way we prepared. Western Michigan had a good plan; they are coming off a very successful season last year, they had a lot of confidence coming in."
On Graeme McFarland's play
"He has been preparing very well. Sometimes you're a senior and you know you aren't going to start, and you can just run and hide, but he hasn't done that. He's prepared, he had an excellent camp and it showed in his performance. It's a comfort to know that we have a guy in his role that was ready to step in when he needed to."
On the team's play against Western Michigan
"I like this team. I like the way they interact with each other and get along. We went as a team to see Invincible last night. I was hoping we would be invincible tonight, but we didn't quite make it there. But overall, I am happy with a win."
On the play of Josiah Sears
"I thought before the game that people would notice number 42. I expected him to have a big role in tonight's game. We need to build that package, we need to expand it and run the ball more and run better."
On what the team needs to improve on
"As a coach I can point to a number of things on both sides of the ball that we need to work on. But the future is bright."
