Head Coach Quotes
Western Michigan head coach Bill Cubit
On the overall performance of Western Michigan
"It's early and we made a lot of mistakes early. Guys weren't on their game and didn't go through technique. It really cost us early because we were moving pretty well and then all of the sudden three or four times we just had breakdowns here and there. "
On Ryan Cubits' injury
"He's got a pretty deep laceration in his forefinger in his passing hand. We'll see how it goes; they stitched it up pretty good and we'll go from there. See how much pain he can tolerate with it."
On the momentum of the Western Michigan offense
"The problem is you don't get momentum when you do little things wrong. We were running routes, with 10- and 15-yard routes on a third-down play and we left guys out. Guys don't line up the way they are supposed to, little things like that. It's one of those things that we knew could happen because we didn't have a guy, our so-called go-to guy, for us right now. Some of these guys are going to have to step up and we'll figure it out from the tape. See the guys and run with them."
On his team's preparation for upcoming games against Virginia and Toledo
"The problem is you are dealing with 12 games and you have a long season. To go over there, we're starting nine sophomores on defense and we don't have our go-to guy right now. You have to just go back to working, get better. It's a long, long season. Half the teams in the country lost today and we just happened to be one of them."
On whether there were any surprises from Indiana
"There weren't really any surprises, we handled the pressure well. I thought we'd be able to run the ball better early. We didn't do a good job running the ball early and that was the key to me. Mental breakdowns from guys, from young kids."
On Cubit's final thoughts on the loss
"I'm real disappointed, I hate to lose and I thought our kids would go out there and they did defend nicely, tough spots in the first half. That punt return killed us mentally with the penalty being on us. Up until that point, even when Ryan was in there, it's a two-touchdown game and we're driving. And then he goes down and the second quarterback (Tom Peregerin) in there, he didn't handle real well early. I thought we'd be okay if we get that score in there, but when he went down it took a little bit of time for Tom to get through it."
