Indiana vs. Connecticut
Head Coach Randy Edsall Quotes
Opening Statement:
"That was a tremendous win. Our defense played outstanding all day long to score seven points for us and didn't give up any points all day. We held them to no rushing yards, and it was just a phenomenal job. My hat goes off to them. Offensively, we did some good things, but we should have scored more points than we did. We had turnovers again in the redzone that really hurt us. We have to get better, because as we continue to play, we have to take advantage of opportunities, and today we didn't do that. We're going to have to develop a little more in our passing game, it hasn't been there the last few weeks. We will go back and evaluate and see how we can make ourselves better. Special teams, we gave up seven points there. That was disappointing, because when we got up on them by 14, I thought we had the game under control. Then, we kicked off, and I'll take the blame there for that one in that situation. We didn't want to kick to that spot. I'm the head coach, so that was my fault. It was a great team victory, now we just have to keep working to get better."
On the defense's play:
"They did a great job of understanding what they were going to be getting from Indiana. I thought we had a great game plan and we matched up well with them. We were able to get pressure with four guys, and we brought a lot of zone pressures. We played very physical and ran to the ball really well."
On how the weather effect game play:
"I was nervous about the weather before the game started, but it ended up being a beautiful day. The wind played a factor early on. That is why we deferred to start the game. I wanted to get the wind in the first quarter and play field position and try to take advantage of that. We had some opportunities and we didn't take them. In the second half, the wind wasn't as much of a factor as the first half."
On the offensive play:
"We have some work to do offensively. We'll watch the tape, and we're going to take a look at things and see how we can make ourselves better. I'm very pleased with how we ran the ball. But I'm not pleased with turnovers, and I am not pleased with the production we had in the passing game."
On playing against two different Indiana quarterbacks:
"Their offense doesn't change. The one thing about Indiana is that their offense doesn't change regardless who is in there. Kellen Lewis is little more of an athlete. They really do the same thing. So it really didn't present any problems, except Kellen's athleticism.
