WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Four Indiana players won consolation matches to close out the final day of the Deacon Classic, hosted by Wake Forest University.
In flight "A," senior Laura McGaffigan earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Olga Votavova of Syracuse. Sophomore Sigrid Fischer fell in her final match, 6-1, 6-1 to Ana Spivakovsky of Charlotte.
Flight "B" saw senior Cecile Perton and junior Brianna Williams face each other for a third place finish in the flight. Williams defeated her teammate 6-0, 6-2.
Freshman Lindsey Stuckey finished her first tournament strong in flight "C", with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Dartmouth's Carley Markovitz.
Sophomore Stephanie Heller defeated Jen Murray of Dartmouth 6-0, 6-2 in flight "D."
In doubles action, the duo of Stuckey and sophomore Alba Berdala fell 8-6 to Ohio State's Voss and Kristin Messmer in the finals of flight "C."
Indiana returns to action Oct. 6-8, as it hosts the Hoosier Classic.
