Schrott Named IU Athlete of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, IUHOOSIERS.com will recognize the top performances in Hoosier Athletics by selecting an IU Athlete of the Week. For the week ending on Sept. 24, field hockey senior forward Lydia Schrott is the winner. This is the first honor for Schrott and field hockey's first of the season. Additionally, Schrott was named Co-Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts last weekend.
The Quarryville, Pa., product led the Hoosiers to a pair of victories last weekend, including a 5-4 double-overtime win against Northwestern on Sept. 22 and a 3-1 victory over New Hampshire on Sept. 24. The win over NU marked the second consecutive year the Hoosiers have opened the conference slate with a victory.
Against NU, Schrott recorded her fourth-career hat trick (program's fifth) with her game-winning, double overtime goal against the Wildcats. The game-winner is her fourth this season.
More impressively, the thrilling game-winning goal marked Schrott's 100th career point, making her the first Hoosier in program history to hit the 100-point plateau.
The Hoosiers are back in action on Friday, Sept. 29 as they play host to Big Ten foe Iowa at 1 p.m. (ET) in Mellencamp Pavilion.
Schrott was one of many Hoosier athletes that turned in strong performances on the week, including Ali Brown (women's soccer), Tracy Porter (football), Kevin Robson (men's soccer) and Erica Short (volleyball)
Ali Brown
Midfielder - Sr. - Carmel, Ind.
Brown notched her first-career multi-goal game, including the game-winner with 9:26 to play against Ohio State, putting a pair of free kicks in the back of the net for the Hoosiers. She also set up Lauren Lamping's game-winner on Friday against Minnesota off a free kick. The goals were the third and fourth of Brown's career, as the midfielder helped the Hoosiers extend their unbeaten streak to eight games with the victories.
Tracy Porter
Cornerback - Jr. - Port Allen, La.
Porter hauled in two interceptions in Indiana's 14-7 loss to Connecticut on Saturday. His first interception with 8:30 left in the first half marked the eighth of his career and his second of the season. Porter followed that pick with one in the second quarter, marking the second time in his career that he has recorded two interceptions in a game. The first time he hauled in two interceptions was in his first career game on Sept. 4, 2004 in Indiana's 41-10 win over Central Michigan. Additionally, that double-interception game for Porter is the last time the Hoosiers notched two picks in a game.
Kevin Robson
Forward - Sr. - St. Peter's, Mo.
Robson scored both of Indiana's goals against Michigan in the Hoosiers' Big Ten opener on Sunday. He scored the first goal of the game after teammate Darren Yeagle was taken out in the box, and Robson made the subsequent penalty kick. His second goal came in the 68th minute, as he shot a liner from 25 yards out into the upper right corner of the net. Robson currently is tied for the team lead with nine points (three goals, three assists).
Erica Short
Middle Blocker - Jr. - Freeburg, Ill.
Short was part of an Indiana team that tallied 23 blocks against Michigan State. Short's three solo blocks in IU's 3-2 win over No. 19 Michigan was part of 10 solo blocks for the team, tied for the best ever in IU history in a five-game match. Short, along with junior Annie Moddrell, who had a trio of solo blocks herself, tied former Hoosier Rachel Gerling for first on the all-time list in five-game matches in the category. Short also had 40 kills on the weekend, an average of 4.4 per game. Her 16 kill, 10 dig performance at Michigan marked her third double-double of the season.
