Brown Earns National Recognition

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior Ali Brown of the Indiana women's soccer team has earned National Team of the Week honors from a pair of publications for her efforts in the Hoosiers' first two Big Ten games. The midfielder was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com and SoccerBuzz.com National Teams of the Week after scoring two goals and assisting on a third in Indiana's two victories.
Brown opened the weekend by setting up the only goal for the Hoosiers against Minnesota. On a free kick from just outside the box, Brown played the ball back to fellow senior Lauren Lamping, who lofted a ball high to the right-hand side above Golden Gopher keeper Lindsey Dare. It marked Brown's first assist of the season.
The Carmel, Ind., native followed her Friday effort up with a stellar outing on Saturday in which she netted both of IU's goals from free kicks. Brown scored one goal in each half to propel Indiana to a 2-1 victory over Ohio State.
The Hoosiers took a 1-0 lead into halftime after Brown tallied her first goal of the contest with less than a minute to play in the stanza. Brown sent a spinning ball toward the far post, and the spin caused the ball to bounce off the ground and just inside the post to put IU up 1-0 with 34.6 seconds to play in the half.
Brown scored her second goal of the game in the 81st minute off a free kick from 25 yards out on the left side. Brown unleashed a bending shot that tucked just under the crossbar and inside the far post to beat keeper Lauren Robertson. The game-winner moved the Hoosiers to 5-2-3 on the season. IU has not lost since Sunday, Aug. 27, against Creighton at the Wisconsin Soccer Invitational. The eight-game unbeaten streak is IU's longest since 1994.
IU returns to action on Friday, Sept. 29, when it will travel to East Lansing, Mich., for a matchup with Michigan State (4-4-1, 0-1-0 Big Ten). The Hoosiers will also face Michigan (4-4-2, 0-1-0 Big Ten) on Sunday, Oct. 1, on the road trip. Each team lost its Big Ten opener at Penn State last weekend.
