This women's soccer season, IUHOOSIERS.com is taking an insider's look at the Hoosiers. Part of that will be the captain's log, where every Thursday one of the Hoosiers' tri-captains will give her view of IU's week. The entry for Thursday, Sept. 28, is by junior Shannon Vnoucek.
Wednesday was a bit of a bummer. Wednesday practices are the time where we have a chance to battle it out in order to gain a spot on Friday and Sundays. We usually play on Yeagley field under the lights, but tonight the men's team had a game against Kentucky (great win, guys!) and so we practiced earlier.
Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate with us. Lightning forced us to move into Mellencamp Pavilion, where we sat and waited while the football team practiced. Erika Flanders led a few of us in an intense ab workout (a.k.a spring break abs) while we waited for Coach Lyon to decide what we were going to do. Practice was cut short and we all headed to dinner.
I think it was a mutual disappointment, as we were all eager to get back out on the field after such a spectacular weekend. I was ready to see some of Ali Brown's (National Team of the Week selection) sweet touches. They've been known to be Beckham-ish. I guess she will just have to save those for the weekend!
This weekend we head up to Michigan to play Michigan State on Friday and the University of Michigan on Sunday. Although the travel is long, it is never uneventful. Movies, homework, and cards keep most of us busy, and occasionally the musical stylings of Ian Rickerby surprise us all. He's been known to sing a few songs here and there, and is definitely a crowd favorite!
After last year's results against our first opponent, Michigan State, I think it's safe to say we are all seeking revenge. The Big Ten season is always tough, but I am confident our team will do well this weekend. We brought intensity and desire to our last two matches and we got good results. This weekend will be no different we are ready to play!
GO HOOSIERS!!
