Inside The Wolverine Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After a weekend break, the Indiana women's golf team heads back out on the road to the Wolverine Invitational this weekend. The tournament, hosted by the University of Michigan, will take place at the University of Michigan Golf Course on Sept. 30 - Oct. 1.
The event consists of three rounds, with 36 holes played on Saturday and the final 18 holes taking place on Sunday. Along with Indiana and Michigan, eight other teams will comprise the field. Big Ten rivals Michigan State, Northwestern and Ohio State will join the Hoosiers and the Wolverines in the field, which will be rounded out by Baylor, Eastern Michigan, Oklahoma, Southern Methodist and Toledo.
Tournament play begins Saturday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. and the second round following immediately after. On Sunday, the final round will commence at 9 a.m. as a shotgun start. Live scoring will be available for the tournament at www.golfstat.com.
This will be the first time that the Hoosiers have competed in the event. Michigan is the defending champion, carding a 905 to capture the title in 2005.
Coach Wallman's Thoughts On The Tournament:
On the team as they are playing right now:
"I think its obviously been going very well. The girls are very comfortable with each other. They travel well together, they are very supportive, but at the same time they are each committed to playing their own games."
On the team's chemistry:
"From a team chemistry standpoint, they do really well together. From a golf standpoint, their games are similar yet different enough where we can look at all the shots we need to hit on a specific golf course. They have a very nice blend of comrade, chemistry and enthusiasm."
On sophomore Tara Boone joining the team on this trip:
"I think Tara's very excited, and we are excited to have her in the lineup. This is a very good golf course for her. It's a golf course that is going to focus on hitting good tee balls, which is a strength of hers. That's definitely a strength of Tara's game, getting the ball in play off of the tee. Tara is great - she has experience traveling, had a great Big Tens last year. Her qualifying has been good this fall and I'm looking for her to make a positive statement this weekend."
On the field:
"Your never want to underestimate the field. Michigan is hosting the NCAA Regionals this year, and this field going to be stacked with top-40 teams. It's a small field, but a very, very deep field. It will be a very good test for us. We saw some of the top teams in our region at the Lady Northern and we get to see them again this week. It will be a very good barometer as to where we are at and what we need to do to get better."
