BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team (1-2-1) will welcome Northern Arizona, Rhode Island and Wisconsin-Milwaukee to Bloomington this weekend for the newly named Old National Bank Hoosier Classic. Indiana has reached an agreement with ONB for the naming rights to the annual soccer festival in 2006.
"We are very excited about this partnership with Old National Bank," head coach Mick Lyon said. "It will help make the women's soccer Old National Bank Hoosier Classic a great experience for both the student athletes and for the Bloomington community who attend the games."
On Friday, Sept. 8, the Panthers (3-1-0) and Rams (1-3-0) will face off at 5 p.m. in the opening game of the tournament, with the Hoosiers and Lumberjacks going head-to-head in the nightcap at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 10, URI will face Northern Arizona (2-1-0) at 11 a.m., while IU will finish off the Classic with a contest against UWM at 1:30 p.m. All games will take place on Yeagley Field at Armstrong Stadium.
"We're bringing in teams from all over the country - East, West, Midwest," Lyon said. "We get to welcome an alumnus [NAU head coach Andre Luciano] back to town. It should be a great festival of soccer for those who come visit."
In the inaugural year of the Classic, the Hoosiers split a pair of games with Miami (2-1 loss) and Xavier (3-1 victory). Marquette, the fourth team in the weekend draw, won both of its contests in overtime to take home the title.
Old National Bank is a proud sponsor of the Indiana women's soccer program.
