Sept. 7, 2006
This women's soccer season, IUHOOSIERS.com is taking an insider's look at the Hoosiers. Part of that will be the captain's log, where every Thursday one of the Hoosiers' tri-captains will give her view of IU's week. The entry for Thursday, Sept. 7, is by junior Shannon Vnoucek.
After attending a morning full of classes I was ready to meet some of my teammates for lunch. Lucky for us, today was free burrito day at Chipotle and practice on Wednesdays is later in the evening (it would be rather difficult to practice with that on board!). After patiently waiting at the Union for Katy Stewart and Kristin Radcliffe to get out of class, we ventured on our way to Kirkwood for our free burritos. To our surprise the seemingly never-ending line moved quickly and we just happened to see Lindsay McCarthy, Megan Reinhardt, and Jessica Boots there!
Wednesday practices are definitely my favorite because we get to play out on Jerry Yeagley Field under the lights. Today we started out in the Metz Lounge at Armstrong Stadium. Coach gave us some insight on our opponents, Erika made some announcements and then we were ready to go. Ian led us through a technical warm-up that included one-touch passing, turning, and taking the ball out of the air.
When that was finally over, we played some great soccer! The grey team in the first 20 minutes came out with more intensity than usual and it was definitely noticed. Jenny Ball had a great one-time finish off a cross from Megan Pipkens. Great work, girls!
Although the teams were switched up throughout practice, the intensity remained high and people continued to compete. This weekend will no doubt be a good showing for us. Not only is it Parents' Weekend (I'm pretty pumped for Kirk and Cath to come!), it's also the Old National Bank Hoosier Classic! We definitely have our eye on that trophy, so other teams watch out!
We'd appreciate your support, so if you have time this weekend, we'd love to see ya out at our games!
GO HOOSIERS!!!
