Getting ready for his team's season-opening tournament, Indiana women's golf head coach Clint Wallman took time to speak with IUHOOSIERS.com about the Badger Invitational. The University of Wisconsin will host the tournament at University Ridge Golf Course from Sept. 10-11, 2006.
What are your feelings heading into the first tournament of the year?
"It's hard to say with three freshmen and a sophomore on the trip - you never know how everyone is going to react. I feel really good in the fact that we have some very capable players and will be playing on a course that is similar to the ones that we played in qualifying."
What are your expectations of the players on this trip?
"I'm definitly looking to Elaine (Harris) and Amber (Lindgren) - I can see them having good tournaments. They played great in qualifying and have the experience of playing in a lot of tournaments already in their careers. Kellye (Belcher), Laura (Nochta) and Anita (Gahir) all had good qualifiers and are ready to play. I am really excited for the team to get out on the course."
What is the team chemistry like heading into the tournament?
"With one-third of the team being new, it takes a while to go through the bonding process. Everyone is doing exceptionally well with that - the upperclassmen have been great role models. Everyone is very excited to be playing and to see their teammates playing."
What are your thoughts on the tournament?
"I think that the field is a really good mix and is a very good start for us. There are some historically good teams in the field, and I think we can play as bit as well as we are capable of performing. I think that it will be interesting to see how we do with a lineup and in a new tournament."
