Pietie Coetzee Added to Field Hockey Staff

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana field hockey head coach Amy Robertson announced the hiring of Pietie Coetzee as assistant coach on Sept. 7. Widely regarded as one of the top strikers in the world, Coetzee comes to Bloomington with more than four years of coaching experience and an unparalleled international playing background.
Robertson believes the addition of Coetzee to the Hoosier staff will pay immediate dividends.
"Pietie is a world class and renowned field hockey player who will add a wealth of international playing and coaching experience to our team," Robertson said. "She will be able to assist greatly with our attacking play and scoring output. Along with an incredible playing career, Pietie has a lot of experience as a head coach for high school and college level field hockey in South Africa. This is an incredible opportunity and one that will have an impact on our program for seasons to come."
Coetzee comes to Indiana after serving as head coach at the University of Johannesburg since January 2005. In addition to coaching one the strongest programs in South Africa, Coetzee oversaw the program's 16 coaches, clinics, budgeting, recruiting and equipment management.
In addition to her duties at the University of Johannesburg, Coetzee simultaneously served as a coach at Bastion High School and Krugersdorp High School in Johannesburg beginning August 2002, where she led the girl's team to a league title in 2005 and a runner-up finish in 2006.
From January 2004 to January 2005, Coetzee served as Rand Afrikaans University's clinic organizer, after working as a data capturer for the Southern Gauteng Hockey Association from January 2003 through April 2003.
In addition to her extensive coaching background, Coetzee is a world-class field hockey player. A nine-year member of the South African National Team, Coetzee is a two-time South African Hockey Association Player of the Year (1998, 2002) and a two-time Olympian (2000, 2004). In total, Coetzee competed in 196 international field hockey contests and scored an impressive 198 goals.
Coetzee earned her bachelor's degree in sport psychology from Rand Afrikaans University in 2003.
