From Jan. 2-6, midfielder Christie Kotynski of the women's soccer team participated with the Olympic Developmental Program's Region II Under-19 squad in interregional play in Ventura, Calif. The freshman kept a diary of her daily events from the West Coast, and IUHOOSIERS.com will publish her entries this week. The third entry is for Thursday, Jan. 4.
Day 3: Another day of getting up early and a morning practice.
But after the practice, we got back to the hotel and my roommates and I decided to go find the harbor where there are a bunch of shops. The front desk gave us directions to the harbor and said it was one mile away, so we start on this walk in different neighborhoods and streets. After walking for a long time, we decided to stop for directions and we found out that it was actually four miles away, so we had to head back through the maze of neighborhoods. Despite not finding the harbor and shopping, we definitely made the trip an adventure.
Our game against Region III didn't go as well as we hoped and we came away with a 2-0 loss. It was frustrating, but we figured in the next game we will have to pick it up and do better. Luckily we have a day of rest tomorrow to relax and get our mind off soccer for a little bit.
