Wheatcroft Set To Make Debut As Member of PGA Tour

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Steve Wheatcroft will begin his first full season as a member of the PGA Tour on Thursday, Jan. 11, at the Sony Open in Hawaii. The former Indiana men's golfer tees off in the opening round at 9 a.m. HST/ 2 p.m. EST on the 10th hole and will be paired with Boo Weekley and Tadd Fujikawa.
David Toms is the defending champion of the event. All four rounds of the Sony will be televised live on The Golf Channel from 7-10:30 p.m. on Thursday-Saturday and between 7 and 10 p.m. during Sunday's final round.
Wheatcroft finished in seventh place at the 2006 PGA Qualifying School to earn his Tour card for the 2007 season. The former Hoosier finished the final stage with a 14-under-par total of 418 (73-75-71-65-67-67) and was one of only seven players to advance through all three rounds of qualifying to earn his card.
The Sony Open in Hawaii is the fourth PGA Tour event that Wheatcroft has entered. He missed the cut in all three of his previous appearances.
In addition to Wheatcroft, former Hoosier and 2003 PGA champion Shaun Micheel is in the field. Micheel tees off at 7:50 a.m. HST/12:50 p.m. EST.
