From Jan. 2-6, midfielder Christie Kotynski of the women's soccer team participated with the Olympic Developmental Program's Region II Under-19 squad in interregional play in Ventura, Calif. The freshman kept a diary of her daily events from the West Coast, and IUHOOSIERS.com will publish her entries this week. The second entry is for Saturday, Jan. 6.
Day 5: WOW! Today was so hectic, yet it went on forever!
First, we started off with an early breakfast, and then we packed our bags and headed to our 10 a.m. game against Region IV. We played really well in this game, but somehow we couldn't find a way to score more goals, and we ended up losing 2-1.
Right after the game we changed and rushed to the airport so some of the girls could catch their flights. That's were the day slowed down because we got to the airport at 1 p.m. and my flight wasn't until 9:55 p.m.
I had to say goodbye to everyone one-by-one as time passed, and then it was me and two other girls who were also on my flight. Luckily, time went by eventually, and we finally got to board and flew to our connecting flight to Detroit. Then, our final flight at 6:25 a.m. was delayed for an hour, but luckily, we made back to Indy around 8:30. What a long day and night!
Looking back on the week, I can't believe it went by so fast! It was so much fun, and the soccer was great. It was awesome to play regular games again, and interesting to play with girls on other Big Ten teams. I got to meet a few new people and made some great friends through this soccer experience! It's sad that it went by so fast, but I will definitely remember all the memories I made on this trip!
