BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana begins its dual-match season on its home court in Bloomington on Monday, Jan. 15, against Morehead State (10 a.m.) and IPFW (4 p.m.) All matches this season will be played at the Varsity Tennis Center, on the indoor or outdoor courts.
HOOSIERS RANKED IN FIRST ITA RANKINGS
In the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings of the 2006-07 season, the Hoosiers are ranked at No. 58. The ranking is equal to Indiana's final ranking of the 2005-06 season.
BUBENICEK EARNS INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
Senior David Bubenicek was ranked at No. 48 in the first singles rankings of the year. He had a strong fall season with a 10-3 record, which included a second-place finish at the Big Ten Singles Championship. He is also ranked at No. 15 in the ITA Regional rankings. He beat several ranked opponents, including No. 37 D.J. Geatz of Minnesota. Bubenicek also went 4-1 with Dara McLoughlin in doubles.
MCLOUGHLIN SOLID IN SINGLES
Junior Dara McLoughlin had a strong fall, reaching the semifinals of the Big Ten Singles Championship before falling to the eventual champion. He ended the fall with a 6-3 record. McLoughlin is ranked 27th in the ITA Regional rankings following tournament play. Last season, he was one of the Hoosiers strongest singles players, going 22-15 for the year. He and Bubenicek will look to build on a good fall season in doubles.
THREE JOIN HOOSIERS FOR SPRING SEASON
Three new faces join Indiana for the spring tennis campaign. Thomas Richter is a transfer from Birmingham Southern. He is a junior in eligibility, but is in graduate school. Philip Eillers is a freshman from Germany, while Lachlan Ferguson is a freshman from Australia.
