Bubenicek Named Big Ten Player of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior David Bubenicek was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Wednesday, Jan. 17, after leading 58th-ranked Indiana to a double-header sweep of Morehead State and IPFW to open the dual-match season.
In the Hoosiers' 6-1 victory over Morehead State, Bubenicek teamed with sophomore Peter Antons at No. 2 doubles to clinch to the doubles point with an 8-4 win. The pair added an 8-3 win over IPFW's Arturo Salgado and Nathan Jones in the afternoon match. Ranked 48th in the country, the Kromeriz, Czech Republic, native also earned back-to-back straight-set wins at No. 1 singles, defeating Morehead State's Jacob McLeod (6-4, 6-1) and Nabil Mourad Filho of IPFW (6-1, 6-0).
Bubenicek is the first Hoosier player to claim the weekly honor since Jakub Praibis on Feb. 3, 2005.
He is 12-3 on the year in singles and 7-1 in doubles, teaming with both junior Dara McLoughlin and Antons.
The Hoosiers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 20, as they host Toledo at 10 a.m. and Murray State at 4 p.m.
